GROWING SOIL – SELF - COMMUNITY A Composting, Food Justice and Urban Farming Program in the Inner City of Seattle This program focuses on food literacy, food security and environmental management as key driving factors of a strong, just and healthy community. Youth ages 14-19 work together with partners to plan, design, and enhance and manage waste through organic composting and build life skills as they learn about food justice and its impact on their neighborhoods and families. Youth learn about and make compost, design, cultivate, weed, plant, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and flowers that are grown in the greenhouse and open raised beds.
